2023 Strategic Planning

At the April 20, 2023 BPAC meeting, BPAC Chair Dianne Yee presented the BPAC 2023 Strategic Plan for adoption, which the Commission revised from the 2022 Strategic Plan at the March 30, 2023 Special Meeting. The Commission also continued discussion on the status of Committee meetings—whether the Infrastructure and Legislative Committees will begin to meet in-person.

2023 BPAC Goals

  1. Be strong advocates for bicyclist and pedestrian safety and hold the city accountable.
  2. Be a two-way conduit for information on bicyclist and pedestrian projects.
  3. Encourage equity-driven investments and policies and increase community involvement in high-injury and historically underserved areas. 
  4. Build relationships with policymakers and provide feedback on policies that affect walking and bicycling in Oakland.

BPAC 2022 Strategic Plan Update

At the April 21, 2022 BPAC meeting, BPAC Strategic Planning Taskforce member, Commissioner Campbell, presented the draft 2022 BPAC Strategic Plan for adoption.

Purposes of the Strategic Plan

  • Focus BPAC members to discuss priorities and, hopefully, arrive at consensus
  • Communicate BPAC’s goals to community, council and city staff
  • Guide agenda development
  • Enable advocacy outside of BPAC meetings
  • Familiarize new BPAC members with the commission’s goals

BPAC 2021 Draft Strategic Plan Update

At the February 18, 2021 BPAC meeting, BPAC Strategic Planning Committee member, Jesse Jones, led the BPAC in a discussion on updating the BPAC Strategic Plan from 2020. View the presentation below and the full list of Goals and Tasks here.

Purpose of the Strategic Plan

  • Philosophically: Formalize our Commission’s values and work plan for the upcoming year.
  • Logistically: Help the Chair/Vice Chair and OakDOT Staff plan the agenda and coordinate with presenters.

Summary of 2020

  • Emphasis on Community Outreach/BPAC presence: Significantly affected by COVID but built internal awareness
  • Legislative Actions: Focused attention of the Committee
  • Police Relations Committee: Successful partnership with OakDOT
