At the August 20, 2026 BPAC meeting, OakDOT staff Jane Mei and Chase Fowler shared about the 66th Avenue project. This project proposes a multi-use path that connects the Coliseum BART station and the Martin Luther King Jr Shoreline, crossing I-880 and the Capitol Corridor Railroad tracks. OakDOT is preparing to select an engineering consultant later this year. OakDOT received Alameda County Measure BB and CA State Coastal Conservancy funding for planning, design, and permitting of this project. Sign up for project update emails.

Goals

Improve connections between the East Oakland and the MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline:

• Create a shared-use path from the East Bay Greenway to the Damon Slough trailhead.
• Work with Union Pacific Railroad on safe crossing treatments.
• Add AC Transit bus stops near the trailhead.
