Curbside Bike Lane Separation Opportunities

At the November 7, 2024 BPAC Infrastructure Committee meeting, Jason Patton, Oakland DOT provided an update to a previous discussion at the June 2019 Infrastructure Committee meeting, identifying opportunity locations for upgrading existing curbside buffered (Class II) bike lanes to physically separated (Class IV) bikeways. Staff provided an update on progress to date, upcoming projects, and future opportunities.

Goals

  • Lower traffic stress and increase perceived safety in locations where there are few tradeoffs.
