| 3 | 6:10 | 2025 Oakland Fire Code Amendments – Chapter 3 and Appendix D (30 minutes) Javan Smith, Assistant Fire Marshal with the Oakland Fire Department (OFD), in collaboration with the Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT), will present proposed amendments to the 2025 California Fire Code, focusing on Chapter 3 and the adoption of Appendix D. This presentation highlights the successful interdepartmental coordination between OFD and OakDOT to align fire safety standards with the City’s street design and safety objectives. The Committee will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the proposed changes ahead of formal adoption. Discussion topics will include: • Key provisions in Chapter 3 related to general fire safety precautions; • The intent and implications of adopting Appendix D, which addresses fire apparatus access roads; • How the proposed amendments aim to balance emergency response requirements with the City’s goals for safer, more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly streets. | ||
| 4 | 6:40 | Parking Policy and Traffic Safety (30 minutes) Michael Ford, Division Manager, and Kerby Olsen, Senior Transportation Planner with OakDOT’s Parking and Mobility Division, will present how parking policy affects traffic safety. Discussion topics will include: • Increased parking enforcement; • Sunday metering; • New parking meter areas; • Use of progressive fine for parking violations; • Enforcement of misuse of disabled placards. | ||
| 5 | 7:10 | Vehicle Speed Data (10 minutes) Jason Patton and Pierre Gerard, Transportation Planners with OakDOT’s Safe Streets Division, will describe a current effort to gather, organize, and share citywide data on traffic speeds and volumes. This interactive web map includes the speed limits adopted in the Oakland Municipal Code and available data on vehicle speeds. To view the vehicle speed data, click on “Layers” and note the layers named “85th Percentile Speed (Batch #2)” and “85th Percentile Speed (Batch #1)”. Layers may be turned “on” and “off” by clicking the eyeball icon located next to the name of each layer. The data includes roughly 700 traffic counts collected in locations across Oakland from 2008 through 2025. | ||
