Applications open for BPAC 2024 Term

There will be open seats on BPAC for the 2024-2027 term.

Meetings are held in-person every third Thursday of the month from 6-8pm in City Hall, Hearing Room 4, 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza.

Interested applicants should submit their applications by Thursday, September 14, 2023.

The Oakland BPAC is holding a meet & greet event for interested applicants to meet current Commissioners and answer questions. It will be held at the Oakland Public Library: César E. Chávez Branch (3301 E 12th St #271, Oakland, near Fruitvale BART) at 6:30-7:30pm on Wednesday, August 23.

Oakland-Alameda Estuary Bridge Project

At the July 6, 2023 BPAC Infrastructure Committee meeting, Rochelle Wheeler, Senior Transportation Coordinator at the City of Alameda, will lead a discussion about a bicyclist and pedestrian bridge proposal across the estuary between West Alameda and Jack London Square.

Fire Code Update

At the July 20, 2023 BPAC meeting, Felicia Bryant, Fire Marshal with the Oakland Fire Department, provided an update on amendments to Appendix D of the Fire Code. In September, the amendments will be presented to the Public Safety Committee of the City Council, following up on amendments adopted by City Council in 2022. Jason Patton, Senior Transportation Planner with OakDOT, helped explain the collaboration between the two departments on implementing traffic safety measures that are supportive of Fire Department operations.

Residential Speed Bump Program

At the July 20, 2023 BPAC meeting, Joe Wang, Supervising Transportation Engineer, and Matthew Reiter, Assistant Engineer II from the OakDOT Safe Streets Traffic Engineering Section presented on the residential speed bump program, which is the most popular program among other DOT workflows that have recently installed speed bumps as well.

Broadway Oakland Tech Pop-Up Crosswalk

At the June 15, 2023 BPAC meeting, Walk Oakland Bike Oakland’s Board President, Chris Hwang, shared highlights from Bike To Work Day celebrations from May 18, 2023. Natalie Mall, a volunteer who coordinated the project with Oakland Tech High School and Traffic Violence Rapid Response group, also shared highlights from the pop-up traffic safety demo on Broadway, implemented over two days, May 17-18.

Chinatown Complete Streets Plan

At the June 15, 2023 BPAC meeting, Manuel Corona, Transportation Planner II in OakDOT’s Planning and Project Development Section, will provide an overview of the Chinatown Complete Streets Plan. This Plan will identify a set of key corridors with multimodal upgrades through outreach to complete the conceptual designs necessary to advance the projects future construction grant funding.
